

Bret Puscheck brings more than 25 years of experience in federal law enforcement and litigation to the practice of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives law. Before entering private practice, Bret served as a Senior Attorney with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) from 2013 to 2025, where he was a key member of the Atlanta Field Division’s management staff. In this role, Bret conducted administrative hearings in firearms and explosives matters and frequently instructed federal agents on constitutional law, including the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments, at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia.

During his ATF tenure, Bret also served in multiple leadership assignments, including Acting Division Counsel in Chicago, Tampa, Charlotte, and Washington, D.C., as well as Counsel to ATF’s Office of Public & Governmental Affairs. At ATF Headquarters, he acted as lead counsel in sensitive whistleblower investigations, coordinating closely with the Office of Special Counsel, the Justice Management Division, and the Office of Personnel Management.

Prior to joining ATF, Bret spent 15 years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of New York. As part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Executive Staff, he served as Rochester Attorney-in-Charge from 2006 to 2013 and held a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance with assignments involving the CIA, NSA, and State Department. From 1998 to 2006, he coordinated the nationally recognized Project Exile initiative, prosecuting firearms-related offenses to reduce violent crime. Over the course of his career as a federal prosecutor, Bret presented more than 500 matters to state and federal grand juries, tried over 125 felony cases to verdict, and successfully briefed and argued appeals before United States District Courts and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
